Rich in history, Ellis celebrates its heritage and past with museums that highlight some of the forces that haved shaped our nation's industry and culture.

WALTER P. CHRYSLER BOYHOOD HOME
The Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home and Museum (View Their Website) celebrates the life and achievements of Chrysler Automotive's founding father, Walter P. Chrysler. Chrysler grew up in Ellis and began his employment with Union Pacific Railroad in town, learning many of the engineering tasks and skills used later in establishing the Chrysler Corporation. Family mementos fill the original home, which is designed to reflect the daily life of the Chryslers at the turn of the 20th century. The museum building, located behind the house, highlights more of the Walter P. Chrysler legacy at the helm of the automotive industry, including vehicles on display.

ELLIS RAILROAD MUSEUM
During the era of the railroad, Ellis served as a major maintenance spot between Kansas City and Denver for the railroad. Our railroad history is featured in the Ellis Railroad Museum. Established in 1994, the Ellis Railroad Museum has an extensive collection of railroad tools, memorabilia and nostalgia, along with model trains, other collections donated for display, and our incredibly popular BK&E Railroad Miniature Train. This 1/3 scale GM Aero Streamliner follows 2.5 miles of track beginning outside of the museum, visiting the old roundhouse site, railroad shops and the Lakeside Campground area long Big Creek. Every year in October, the miniature train is used for a Haunted Train Ride performed by local youth community groups, drawing large crowds of childen and adults in costumes ready to be spooked!

BUKOVINA SOCIETY OF THE AMERICAS
Ellis also serves as the headquarters for the Bukovina Society of the Americas (Visit Their Website), an organization celebrating the travels and heritage of Bukovina Germans who came to America in the late 1800s and made Ellis one of the primary pioneering spots for the culture. Located in the impressive First Congregational Church building on Washington (Main) Street, the museum is home to a collection of Bukovina emigrant artifacts, as well as geneology-rich records available for research.
